Meet Mpho Mohaswa, the woman behind Precious & Pearl Brands.
In 2018, Mpho Mohaswa embarked on a journey that would not only redefine her life but also leave its mark on the world of agro-processing. Born and raised in Burgersfort, a small town in Limpopo, Mpho’s story is about passion, perseverance, and the pursuit of a truly South African taste.
The journey began in a humble garage, where Mpho, armed with her background in chemical engineering, started her solo venture. In a bucket, she meticulously mixed what would soon become renowned as the best-tasting non-alcoholic ginger beer beverage, Ghemere. From these modest beginnings, Mpho has become an inspirational entrepreneur at the helm of a thriving business that employs 15 young people from local communities.
What sets Mpho apart is not just Ghemere, but her commitment to community empowerment. With 50 resellers who purchase her product at a discount and sell it for profit, she has created a sustainable cycle of economic upliftment. Her impact goes beyond the factory floor, reaching into the hearts of local communities, where she encourages and supports women to start their own businesses. By selling Ghemere, these women learn entrepreneurial skills to become architects of their destinies.

Mpho’s dreams expanded from the garage to the expansive Riversands Incubation Hub in Midrand. As the company’s representative, she’s received many accolades, including being named one of Mail and Guardian’s Top 200 Young South Africans (in the entrepreneurship category) in 2021. Mpho has since received the 40Under40SA, Fabulous Women Job Creation Award, and the Nedbank Business Ignite over 2023.
Mpho Mohaswa is the first young black female to conquer the mainstream market, breaking barriers with every bottle. Her journey from a garage is more than a success story – it inspires young women venturing into entrepreneurship.
